Independence bans outdoor burning for a week

The Independence Fire Department on Monday issued a burn ban for the next week.

The ban applies to all outdoor or open burning because of forecasts of high winds and low humidity. The ban does not extend to barbecue grills, but the fire department urges grillers to use extreme caution.
