Grandview sex offender sentenced for child pornography

A convicted sex offender from Grandview was sentenced Monday to nearly 16 years in prison for receiving child pornography over the Internet.

Federal prosecutors said that Robert E. Shepherd, 41, had prior convictions for sex crimes against children in Clay and Cass counties and was on parole when child pornography was discovered on his computer in 2008 when he took it to a repair facility.

He absconded from parole and was a fugitive until his 2011 arrest at the Mexican border. He returned to face prosecution in the child pornography case.

Shepherd was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to 15 years and eight months in prison.
