Labor Day, the hippo, celebrates a birthday

A hippopotamus named Labor Day will celebrate her 32nd birthday at the Kansas City Zoo on Monday with a party and watermelon.

Keepers will give a talk about hippos and will give Labor Day a watermelon, which she can eat whole, at 11:30 a.m. in the African section of the zoo.

Both Labor Day and the zoo’s other hippo, named Liberty, came to the zoo in 1995.
