KC man sentenced to more than 15 years for robbing bank with hatchet
A federal judge has sentenced a Kansas City man to more than 15 years in federal prison for robbing a bank with a hatchet.
Derek T. Brownlee, 35, who pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery, was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison.
Brownlee wore a bandanna over his face and carried a hatchet when he robbed the Metcalf Bank at 7800 College Boulevard in Overland Park.
He jumped the teller’s counter and demanded money. In addition to cash he took from the drawer, he took personal items from a teller.
He then led police on a chase that reached speeds up to 90 miles an hour. He was arrested in Kansas City after a foot chase.
