Church of the Resurrection Downtown will buy a Kansas City Star parking lot
The Church of the Resurrection Downtown has agreed to buy a parking lot used by employees of The Kansas City Star.
Terms of the agreement in principle were not disclosed. The sale is expected to be completed early next year. Star employees will continue to use the 2-acre lot that sits directly west of the newspaper’s green-glass press plant at 17th and McGee streets.
The church needs additional parking for the more than 1,000 people its downtown campus at 1522 McGee St. attracts each weekend, as well as offices, classrooms and additional worship space nearby.
It also expects to build on the site in the future, maintaining the parking capacity, said Scott M. Chrostek, pastor for the downtown campus, which is part of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection based in Leawood.
