Rockhurst wins WorldQuest competition

Rockhurst High School earned first place at the regional Academic WorldQuest, an international knowledge competition hosted by the International Relations Council.

Grandview students rank 1, 2, 3 in bridge building

Grandview High School students won the top three honors at the 31st annual Model Bridge Building Competition, sponsored by the Western Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers.

Junior Landon Brack won the event, and seniors Shelbe Thompson and Harvey Kendall placed second and third respectively, the school district said. Brack and Thompson will go to the international competition in Chicago. All three will be honored Tuesday at the Grandview City Council meeting.

Each student, using only basswood sticks and glue, designed and built a model bridge. Then the bridges were weighted until they collapsed to determine their structural efficiency. Brack’s and Thompson’s bridges held exactly the same weight, the district said, but Brack’s bridge was one gram lighter, giving it the highest structural efficiency.
