Prison ordered in Shawnee attempted murder

A 51-year-old Shawnee woman was sentenced Monday to 48 years in prison for the attempted killing of her husband last summer.

Denise Davey is one of four people charged in the incident that left the 69-year-old victim with severe beating injuries.

In January, a Johnson County District Court jury found her guilty of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. District Judge Brenda Cameron on Monday ordered the sentences on the two convictions to run consecutively.

Another defendant, 25-year-old Whitney Hersh of Kansas City, was sentenced Monday to six years in prison for her role in the case.

Hersh pleaded guilty in January to attempted first-degree murder, and she testified at Davey’s trial. Attorneys jointly recommended the six-year sentence as part of the plea agreement.

Charges against the two other defendants, including Denise Davey’s adult daughter, are pending.
