Leawood police seeking suspect in assault and thefts
A suspected thief assaulted a department store security officer with pepper spray before fleeing, Leawood police said Thursday.
The incident occurred last week at Macy’s in the 5100 block of West 119th Street. The same suspect may have been involved in thefts at the Metro North Mall, police said.
The Macy’s employee told police that the suspect was seen cutting anti-theft devices from purses. When the guard approached, the suspect used the pepper spray and threatened to shoot the guard with a gun, according to police.
The suspect fled in a tan or gold Toyota passenger car. Police released surveillance camera images and asked anyone with information to call the Leawood police investigations unit at 913-663-9309 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
