Suspect arrested for Overland Park apartment fire

A 21-year-old Overland Park man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly setting a fire in his apartment building and scuffling with other residents who tried to put it out.

Overland Park police said the incident occurred just before 4 a.m. Thursday in the 9100 block of Nieman Road.

A small fire was set in the hallway outside the suspect’s door, according to police. Residents extinguished the flames after the suspect initially tried to stop them, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect was taken to the Johnson County Jail. Reports were submitted to the district attorney’s office for possible charges.
