After stretch of record cold in KC, warming trend is forecast

Monday’s low set a record for March 3 when temperatures dropped to 7 degrees below zero at 5:40 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The previous record was 1 degree below zero, set in 1978.

The cold follows a record-setting day on Sunday. Its high of only 5 degrees was the coldest high temperature for that date. That broke the old record of 14 degrees set in 1943.

Sunday’s was also the coldest high temperature for March. The previous record was 11 degrees set on March 4, 1978.

A warming trend is expected to push temperatures into the 50s by Friday.
