Car theft investigation ends in security breach at KCI

The arrest of a man suspected of stealing a car led to a breach of security at Kansas City International Airport early Monday.

Platte City police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle shortly before midnight. After a pursuit, the driver, identified as 30-year-old Matthew C. Salmons of St. Joseph, and a passenger bailed through a field at Northwest 120th Street and Running Horse Road. Salmons was captured with the help of a police dog about 1:20 a.m. KCI Airport Police captured the passenger on airport property about 3 a.m.

Because of their exposure to the cold, both suspects were taken to a hospital. The passenger was admitted and Salmons was charged with tampering and resisting arrest.
