Robbery suspect passes out as police officers approach

Some bad guys run from police officers. Others fight the police.

But a robbery suspect Thursday night offered no such resistance. He simply passed out, apparently intoxicated, as officers approached.

A 29-year-old robbery victim told police he was walking north on Oakley Avenue just north of Truman Road about 8:20 p.m. to get to a friend’s house when he encountered another man. The victim asked the man for a cigarette, and the man complied. The man then hit him in the head with a handgun and punched him four or five times in the face, knocking him to the ground, where he lost consciousness.

Just before he lost consciousness, he saw his attacker run into a house in the 1400 block of Oakley. When he woke, he saw his wallet on the ground. It was missing $125.

Officers looking for the robber saw a 39-year-old man matching the robber’s description who fell to the ground and passed out in a front yard. Police arrested him. The victim identified him as the robber.

An ambulance took the victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries to his nose, ankle and side.
