UMKC names David Donnelly as the new dean of the Bloch School

David Donnelly on Friday was named the new dean of the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Donnelly, 62, succeeds Teng-Kee Tan, who had been dean of the school since 2009. Donnelly has served as acting dean since last May, when Teng-Kee encountered health problems.

“David Donnelly’s leadership has been exemplary and invaluable over the past several months,” Gail Hackett, executive vice chancellor and provost at UMKC, said in a statement.

Donnelly joined UMKC in 2004 as chair and professor of accountancy at the Bloch School, positions he had held at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Before that, he led the accounting department at Kansas State University, where he earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees.

“The school will continue to follow the twin-pillar philosophy … of nurturing leaders in both the for-profit sector and the nonprofit public sector and will continue to be a significant knowledge and economic development resource for the Kansas City region and beyond,” Donnelly said in a statement.

Donnelly oversees 70 faculty members and instructors, with current spring enrollment of 1,822 students. He said in his statement that his goals include doubling enrollment and developing innovative programs, particularly in graduate school and executive education.
