Merriam picks new police chief
Capt. Mike Daniels, a 27-year veteran of the Merriam Police Department, will become the city’s police chief on June 28, after Chief Tim Burnett retires, city officials announced this week.
“The City is fortunate to have someone of Daniels’ caliber for the position,” Merriam City Administrator Phil Lammers said in a written statement. “He is highly regarded in the Johnson County law enforcement community, and a proven leader in our department.”
A 2010 graduate of the FBI National Academy, Daniels has worked in patrol and investigative positions and served as a field training officer, firearms and use of force instructor, and SWAT team commander, the city said. He is a member of the Metro Squad and the Johnson County Involved Shooting Investigation Team.
