KC man convicted of murdering woman, dumping her body near park
A Jackson County jury convicted a Kansas City man Thursday of murdering a woman in November 2012 and dumping her body near a Platte County park.
Gustavo M. Ortiz, 38, was convicted of second-degree murder in the strangulation death of Denise Streeter, 49, at his Kansas City apartment.
Authorities accused Ortiz of meeting Streeter at a Kansas City, Kan., casino for a drug purchase. At his home later, the two argued and Ortiz choked her with his hands and an electrical cord, according to a witness quoted in court records.
Police recovered Streeter’s body in a wooded area adjacent to Platte Purchase Park at Northwest 100th Street and North Platte Purchase Drive.
A judge set sentencing for Ortiz for April 4.
