KC woman interrupts burglar rummaging through her belongings

A 31-year-old woman interrupted a burglar rummaging through her belongings Wednesday in her home in the 400 block of White Avenue in the Northeast area.

The woman was taking a shower about 11 a.m. when she heard a noise, police said. When she went to investigate, she found a man wearing a ski mask and gloves. He punched her in the face, pushed her into a wall and fled through a broken back window into an alley. Police think he had broken the window to get into the house.

The victim heard a car engine revving and tires spinning from the alley. A detailed description of the suspect was not available.

Although the crime started out as a burglary, it evolved into an attempted robbery when the suspect used force against the victim.
