Fight over a remote control ends in stabbing

Kansas City police arrested a 17-year-old girl early Wednesday after she allegedly stabbed her stepfather in a dispute that started over a television remote control.

The victim suffered cuts to his chin, abdomen and back in the 1:10 a.m. incident in the 10600 block of East 42nd Street.

The victim and his wife had been arguing in their apartment bedroom about the remote when the victim reportedly threw it. The couple yelled and pushed each other. The stepdaughter kicked in the bedroom door and confronted her stepfather, according to police reports.

Three other children in the home, ages 5, 8 and 15, told police they heard fighting and saw the stepfather and teenager leave the bedroom.

Once in the living room, the stepfather reportedly threw a bookend at the wall. The teen reportedly went into the kitchen, came out with a knife and allegedly stabbed her stepfather.

The wife came into the living room and saw her daughter holding a bloody knife, according to police reports.

Police cited the teen with a municipal ordinance violation of assault.
