Try free ice skating; help honor teachers
The public can take advantage of a free ice-skating session at the Independence Events Center as Comcast honors faculty members at five high schools for excellence in teaching and coaching.
The free event, which includes an Olympic viewing party, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13 at the events center, 19100 E Valley View Parkway. Olympian Ken Morrow, a member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” U.S. hockey team, will speak.
Other activities include music and games for children, the free ice-skating and clinics and demonstrations by the Missouri Mavericks and Heartland Skating Club.
Nominations for the “Gold Medal” award have come from students and community members representing William Chrisman, Truman, Van Horn, Raytown and Raytown South high schools. Winners from each school will be determined by public voting at www.facebook.com/comcastkc.
