The winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on some parts of the Kansas City area set a new record.

Kansas City International Airport recorded 7.5 inches of snow on Tuesday, breaking the previous record for Feb. 4 of 7.4 inches, which was set in 1924.

For the duration of the storm, 7.9 inches of snow fell at KCI, according to the winter storm report by the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

In addition to the up to a foot of snow, winds gusting up to 30 mph created blowing and drifting snow. Many areas reported snow drifts of 2 to 3 feet.

A total of 9.2 inches of snow was measured at the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo. Snow fell for 25 consecutive hours there.

Other parts of the Kansas City metropolitan area saw more snow, including 10.5 inches in Olathe and south of Overland Park, according to a reading from the public.

St. Joseph also had 10.5 inches of snow with drifts up to 3 feet deep.

To the east of Basehor, 10 inches of snow fell.

Meanwhile, 11 inches fell south of Kansas City, 11.7 inches in Leavenworth and 11.5 inches west of Kansas City, Kan.

The snowflakes are measurements taken by taken by public, broadcast media and law enforcement while rulers are those taken by the National Weather Service, its employees, a cooperative observer and emergency managers.
