Autopsy inconclusive in KC woman’s death in mid-Missouri

An autopsy on the body a Kansas City woman found in a mid-Missouri field last week did not uncover any signs of trauma, the Holts Summit Police Department announced Monday.

An employee of a nearby business spotted the body of Jessica Murafetis on Thursday in Holts Summit, which is south of Columbia. Police launched a homicide investigation.

“At this time, the cause of death is undetermined and toxicology results will likely take several months to come back from the lab,” the department said in a statement released Monday. “Information obtained from the public has been of great assistance to investigators, and numerous leads have led to valuable information.”

Murafetis had lived in Kansas City about four years and had relatives in Johnson County, Mo., police said last week.

Police are asking anyone with information on how she got to Holts Summit or what may have happened to her to call Lt. Bryan Ried at 573-896-8431 or the Callaway County Crime Stoppers hotline at 573-592-2474.
