Kansas City man dies in Lee’s Summit shooting

A Kansas City man is dead after a shooting Saturday in Lee’s Summit.

Officers were called about 2 a.m. Saturday to the 600 block of Northeast Meadow Lane. By the time they arrived, police said, the dispute had escalated to gunfire.

The victim, Jason K. Starchman, 29, was found in the front yard. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they took a man in his 40s into custody without incident. The man knew the victim, the department said in a midday news release.

The man later was released, police said, after the prosecutor’s office reviewed the initial investigation and asked for more information about events leading to the shooting.
