Driver struck, killed while crossing I-435 following crash with semitrailer in Shawnee
A 26-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was struck and killed late Thursday while trying to cross Intestate 435 in Shawnee after being involved in a crash with a semitrailer.
Shaun P. Robinson was involved in a non-injury crash with a semitrailer about 9:56 p.m. along southbound I-435 just south of Johnson Drive, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Two minutes later, a 2007 Chevrolet PT Cruiser struck him as he tried crossing southbound I-435, according to a preliminary crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Robinson was walking west across the interstate when the southbound PT Cruiser hit him.
Shortly after the fatal crash, two other non-injury crashes occurred.
Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene. The 52-year-old driver of the PT Cruiser was injured, but the report doesn’t indicate the extent of her injuries or whether she was taken to the hospital.
All lanes of southbound I-435 were closed for several hours overnight while authorities investigated the fatal crash.
All lanes of the highway were reopened by 5 a.m. Friday.
