Winter weather advisory issued for KC area

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Kansas City area from 3 a.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Kansas City region could see two rounds of snow the next two days as storms move across the region.

The first chance comes overnight Thursday into Friday morning as a weak front moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

There’s a chance for scattered showers and as much as 1 inch of snow across northern Kansas and Missouri early Friday morning.

The more likely chance of snow will come Friday evening into Saturday morning, when up to 5 inches of snow is expected to fall across northern Missouri. The Kansas City area could see 1 to 4 inches of snow in that storm, according to the National Weather Service.

Some light freezing rain is possible Friday night into Saturday morning across central Missouri, mainly along and south of Interstate 70. Up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulations will be possible.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service warns that there’s still potential for a significant winter storm early next week.
