Driver shoots at KC school security guard

Kansas City police are looking for a driver who fired four times at a school security guard early Saturday.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. near 16th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard.

The guard had just checked Northeast High School in his Kansas City School District vehicle when he pulled onto Van Brunt, behind another vehicle. The guard, who planned to drive to East High School, continued south on Van Brunt behind the other vehicle.

After about a mile, at 16th Street, the other vehicle turned west and the driver leaned out of the window with a gun. The driver fired four times, but missed the guard and his vehicle.

Police are investigating whether the shooter mistakenly thought the guard was following him. It was unclear if the shooter knew the victim worked as a security guard.
