Fox News personality Steve Doocy, a graduate of the University of Kansas, has been chosen Distinguished Kansan of the Year by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas.

Doocy, one of the hosts of “Fox & Friends,” was born in Iowa and moved to Kansas at age 5, according to a news release. He lived in Abilene, Russell, Salina, Industry, Wakefield and Clay Center.

As a boy, according to information sent from his network said, Doocy delivered The Kansas City Star. He started his broadcast career in Lawrence with the birth of student-run radio KJHK-FM in 1975. He graduated with a journalism degree in 1979.

He went on to give weekend weather forecasts on KTSB-TV in Topeka and hosted “PM Magazine” at KAKE in Wichita and KMBC in Kansas City in the early 1980s.

The Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas will recognize Doocy at its annual banquet Friday night in Topeka.
