Arctic blast is bringing dangerous wind chills to KC overnight

Bundle up, Kansas City. The next arctic blast is on its way.

Bitterly cold air is moving into the area Wednesday night and Thursday, with wind chills approaching dangerous levels between 15 and 25 degrees below zero overnight and into the morning for much of the area.

In anticipation of the dangerous wind chills, the Leavenworth, Lansing and Tonganoxie school districts called off classes for Thursday.

The overnight low is forecast to drop a low as 2 degrees below zero, and the high on Thursday will be 14 degrees.

The National Weather Service cautions that these bitter wind chills could cause frostbite and hypothermia if people do not take proper safety measures before venturing outside.

Friday and Saturday are shaping up to be more pleasant, with highs in the 40s.
