The outer roads along U.S. 50 in Jackson County are about to get longer.
Transportation officials plan to extend the frontage roads east from Blackwell Road to Missouri 7 and build a new Blackwell Road interchange in Lee’s Summit.
The public can learn about the project from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 S.E. Green St.
Construction is expected to begin in 2015.
Open house at Brookside schoolBrookside Charter and Early Learning Center has completed an $11.1 million expansion that more than tripled its space, and the milestone will be celebrated Saturday at the school, 1815 E. 63rd St.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and features Brookside students along with educator, musician and radio host Carl Boyd. A pancake brunch will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., along with school tours.
Brookside added 12 new classrooms as well as a gymnasium with a theater stage.
Middle schoolers began using the new classrooms last fall, and the gym opened in late November.
