Missouri Mavericks to host four members of 1980 Olympics team
Even 34 years after winning the 1980 Olympic gold medal in the “Miracle on Ice” hockey game, Ken Morrow said he still gets two or three fan letters a day.
“It’s gone by fast, and if anything the attention has grown,” Morrow said. “It’s not only the people that were alive when it happened, but it’s kids who saw the movie or their parents told them about it so it is passing on from generation to generation.”
This year, to commemorate the occasion, Morrow will be joined by former teammates Dave Christian, Buzz Schneider and Mike Eruzione for a day of activities in Kansas City followed by a Missouri Mavericks game on Feb. 1.
The events will start at The Rink at Burlington Creek at 1 p.m. with a public skate and exhibition pond hockey game featuring the Olympians. Then the group will head to the Missouri Mavericks game at the Independence Events Center where there will be a meet-and-greet and silent auction. The event will benefit the UnCommon Community program and a new scholarship fund through KC Ice.
