Senators from Missouri demand answers in wrong-airport landing
U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt has called for a “complete and thorough investigation” into Sunday’s landing of a passenger jet at the wrong Missouri airport.
Blunt, a Missouri Republican, asked for the probe in a letter sent Tuesday to the Federal Aviation Administration.
“The flying public and residents surrounding every commercial airport deserve answers,” the letter said.
Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, said the landing should provoke a review of flight control procedures. She led a hearing Tuesday on federal contracts for training air traffic controllers.
“It is hard to understand how the air traffic controllers allowed them to land at the wrong airstrip, at the wrong airport, on the wrong runway,” she said.
On Sunday, a Southwest Airlines jet landed at M. Graham Clark Downtown Airport in Hollister instead of at Branson Airport.
