Children’s Mercy to open clinic in Joplin

Children’s Mercy on Tuesday announced plans to open a pediatrics care clinic in Joplin as part of an affiliation with Freeman Health System.

The clinic, which will be called Children’s Kansas City, will offer medical care in seven specialty areas — cardiology, endocrinology-diabetes, gastroenterology, hematology-oncology, nephrology, rheumatology, and telemedicine.

The clinic, at 3333 McIntosh Circle Drive, is on the Freeman campus.

“We’ve heard from both families and physicians that their patients want access to our specialty services without having to travel to Kansas City,” Marshaun Butler, vice president of Kansas City-based Children’s Mercy said in a statement.

In addition to the new clinic, Children’s Mercy and Freeman said they will collaborate on clinical practices.

Children’s Mercy said a donation from the Coleman Family Foundation in Pittsburg, Kan., helped support the expansion into Joplin.
