KC man convicted in 2011 killing at car wash

A Jackson County jury convicted a Kansas City man Monday evening of first-degree murder in the September 2011 killing of Jose O. Jenkins.

Timothy T. McClendon, 37, admitted to authorities on Sept. 26, 2011, that he had shot Jenkins numerous times the previous day at a car wash near 42nd Street and Prospect Avenue.

McClendon told investigators that Jenkins had shot first and that he had returned fire.

Surveillance video showed, however, that after Jenkins collapsed, McClendon reloaded and fired several more times at Jenkins, court records said.

Investigators estimated that Jenkins sustained more than 20 gunshot wounds to his head, neck and torso.
