Strong winds with gusts up to 40 mph headed to Kansas City

The chances for a good hair day are slim as strong northwesterly winds are expected across the Kansas City region Tuesday.

A strong clipper system moving through Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region will bring strong, gusty wind to Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Winds along and south of the Interstate 70 corridor are expected to be 20 to 25 mph with gusts of 35 to 40 mph after 9 a.m.

The windy, dry conditions also bring high fire danger.

The winds will be stronger in northern Kansas and Missouri, as well as Nebraska and Iowa, where sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph and gusts of 45 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

As the storm system moves farther east Tuesday night, the winds will die down.

Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid-40s, dropping to the mid-30s by 5 p.m.

Prepare for colder temperatures Wednesday as highs are expected to reach only the mid-30s in Kansas City.

Expect wind to return Thursday, hitting about 20 to 30 mph, as well as elevated fire danger, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will rebound, with highs in the low to mid-40s Thursday, but then drop Friday, when highs are expected to reach only the upper 20s.
