Freezing rain, drizzle to challenge commuters Thursday, Friday morning
Drivers need a little extra caution for Thursday morning’s rush hour as light snow and freezing drizzle falls over parts of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The snow is expected to change to freezing drizzle this morning across parts of central Missouri, but little or no snow or ice accumulation is expected.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill posted on its
about 6 a.m. that light freezing drizzle and flurries were falling across southern portions of the metro area.
The precipitation should end by midday.
But another storm system is expected to move into the area with rain and possibly freezing rain Friday morning.
The freezing rain will mainly be in and north of the Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service. It’s not expected to build beyond a very thin layer.
The freezing rain could affect Friday morning’s commute, especially north of Interstate 70, the National Weather Service warned.
The freezing rain will change to rain as temperatures warm.
Total rainfall is expected to be 1/4 of an inch in the Kansas City metro, increasing to the southwest.
