New judge chosen for Jackson County

Missouri’s governor announced Tuesday that he had appointed a top local prosecutor to be Jackson County’s newest associate circuit judge.

Jalilah Otto, the chief trial assistant for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, also has extensive experience working in the federal justice system as a special assistant U.S. Attorney, Gov. Jay Nixon noted in a written statement.

“Jalilah Otto has done tremendous work as a public servant in the prosecuting attorney’s office and in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, prosecuting difficult cases and managing other attorneys and legal staff,” Nixon said.

Otto attended Tulane University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree, and the University of Missouri, where she graduated from the law school.
