Reality TV stars Honey Boo Boo and family in car crash
Reality TV star Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family were involved in a car crash Monday night in their hometown of McIntyre, Georgia, with several members taken to the hospital by ambulance.
TMZ
reports that they were in a car driven by patriarch Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson. He was turning left on a green light when another driver ran the red light and hit them, according to TMZ, the first to report the accident.
Honey Boo Boo’s sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, told TMZ that Sugar Bear has a contusion on his back, Mama June Shannon suffered back injuries and Honey Boo Boo has a headache. Pumpkin reportedly has severe chest bruises.
The family stars in TLC’s reality series “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." The third season premieres Jan. 16.
Mama June released a statement to Us Weekly magazine Tuesday confirming the news. "It was really scary for us, since it was the first time any of us had ever been in a wreck," she said. "We are definitely really sore today, but our top priority is to celebrate Pumpkin's birthday. She turned 14 today and no matter how sore we feel we are going to go out and celebrate. As always we want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes."
It's been a rather eventful holiday and post-holiday season for the family. According to celebrity news site Wetpaint.com, Mama June surprised the family with a trip to Disney World after her daughters decided they would go without Christmas presents and help raise money for others in their hometown instead.
But while there in late December, Sugar Bear, Honey Boo Boo's sister Jessica and a family friend were all hospitalized - Sugar Bear with a sinus infection, Jessica with bronchitis and friend Bobbie with the H1N1 virus. Mama June called it the "worst vacation" they'd ever had.
