Snow leaves roadways slick, dangerous; churches cancel services
Police and law enforcement authorities have reported several vehicle slide-offs and a few minor accidents after an overnight snowfall left highways and major roadways slick and icy.
A number of churches have either modified or canceled their worship services because of the inclement weather.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported slick conditions at Interstates 435 and 35. No major accidents have been reported.
Snow removal crews in Kansas City worked overnight to clear and treat major roadways and are already out removing snow in residential areas, said Sean Demory, spokesman for the city’s public works department.
“Our crews worked overnight and will continue until at least midnight tonight on the arterial streets and 6 p.m. on the residential areas,” Demory said. “We’re making progress, but we’ll be able to do substantively better once the snow stops falling.”
To ensure crews have a clear path, motorists in Kansas City should park their vehicles off the streets.
