Man dies after being pulled from burning house in northeast KC

A man died after he was pulled from a burning home by firefighters Saturday morning in northeast Kansas City.

Kansas City firefighters responded to a house fire at 5619 St. John Ave about 8 a.m. Smoke billowed from the single-story structure, said Battalion Chief James Garrett. Firefighters were told people were inside.

A man, who had not been identified Saturday, was found at the rear of the house. Garrett said the residence had no working smoke detectors.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died. No other people were found in the house.

Neither the amount of damage nor the cause of the blaze had been determined Saturday.
