Independence standoff ends

Independence police found no one inside a home they surrounded in the 1100 block of S. Pearl Street followed a reported assault.

The initial call was made just after 3 p.m. and involved a woman and her former boyfriend. The woman had gotten out of the home but her condition was not immediately available.

The suspect remained at large, police said shortly before 6 p.m.
