You’re on: KC Mayor Sly James bets Indy counterpart on Chiefs-Colts
Say this about Kansas City Mayor Sly James: The man is a fierce competitor when it comes to defending the honor of his hometown sports teams.
On Friday, James threw down the gauntlet to Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard: a bet on Saturday’s AFC wild-card playoff game at Indy, featuring the Chiefs at the Colts.
If the Colts win, James will ship Ballard “a gourmet selection” of Kansas City barbecue, according to a news release. Should the Chiefs win, Ballard will send James two of his Indianapolis favorites — a helping of signature shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo steakhouse and some red velvet cupcakes from the Flying Cupcake.
“Shrimp from Indiana?” James quipped in a statement. “Can we just have the NCAA headquarters back and consider us even?”
James also got in a little dig at Indy quarterback Andrew Luck, who led the Colts to a 23-7 victory at Arrowhead two weeks ago.
“I am looking forward to kicking the new year off in a big way with a big win on Saturday,” James said. “I’m confident that the Colts’ Luck will come to an end this weekend.”
