Chiefs promote tight end Dominique Jones from practice squad
The Chiefs promoted tight end Dominique Jones to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Saturday. To make room for Jones, the team released receiver Chad Hall.
Jones, 6 feet 3 and 270 pounds, joined the Chiefs practice squad at midseason after spending 2012-13 with the Indianapolis Colts. With tight end Anthony Fasano out for the Chiefs’ game against Washington on Sunday, Jones will be a backup tight end to Sean McGrath.
Jones, who played collegiately at Shepherd (W.Va.) University, appeared in 10 games for the Colts, making three starts. He caught three passes for 42 yards in that time.
“He’s a guy who has some experience,” said Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson. “He’s going to have some opportunity this weekend to play … using our two-tight end sets.”
Before signing with the Colts, Jones played with the Reading Express of the Indoor Football League, leading the team with 39 receptions for 349 yards and seven touchdowns, and he also played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.
Hall, who is listed at 5 feet 8 and 187 pounds, has played in 23 games, starting one, in just over two NFL seasons with the Chiefs and Eagles. Hall rejoined the Chiefs on Nov. 22 after originally coming to Kansas City before the season on waiver claim from San Francisco. He played in eight games with the Chiefs, recording one catch for nine yards.
