Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp: ‘Sound of Music’ poster revealed

On Monday, NBC released a poster for its upcoming, live version of “The Sound of Music” starring Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, the role Julie Andrews played in the movie.

Evoking that famous scene at the beginning of the movie, where Maria is twirling atop a mountain, Underwood appears with arms outstretched.

Instead of a pinafore like Andrews wore in the movie, Underwood wears a more figure-flattering corset. (Did novice nuns wear corsets?)

“The tagline for this endeavor is: ‘The beloved family classic comes alive again!’ Unfortunately, the poster makes it look like it's about a giantess that comes to life and terrorizes Austria,” notes The Atlantic.

The new version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic airs during the holiday season on Dec. 5.

Stephen Moyer of “True Blood” stars as Capt. Georg von Trapp, the role played in the movie by Christopher Plummer.

On Monday, NBC announced that three Tony-winning actors will also appear in the show.

Broadway star Audra McDonald will play the Mother Abbess, which guarantees an unforgettable version of “Climb Every Mountain.”

Christian Borle (“Smash”) will play Max Detweiler and Laura Benanti will play the captain’s one-time girlfriend, Elsa Schrader.
