Air show organizers take steps to ease transportation snarls

Organizers of the Kansas City Aviation Expo and Air Show on Sunday said more shuttle buses would be added “as needed” after complaints about delays on Saturday.

Thousands of people waited to catch the free shuttles back to their cars after the Navy’s Blue Angels completed their part of the show. Parking was not allowed at Wheeler Downtown Airport and the Broadway Bridge was closed.

Air show spokesman Pat O’Neill issued a statement Sunday that said steps were being taken to “improve and speed up bus movement and pick up procedures at the airport during and at the conclusion of the show.”

In addition, organizers planned to improve signage at downtown shuttle pick-up points along Grand Boulevard and to provide water stations at the airport’s bus departure points.
