The Corner Restaurant opens in Westport

Westport's The Corner Restaurant has softly opened.

The Westport mainstay closed more than three years ago. But new owners -- Michael Pfeifer and Dawn Slaughter -- took over the space late last year. They've spent the last few months remodeling the restaurant at 4059 Broadway, giving it an "industrial farmhouse" decor. On a beautiful spring Sunday, Pfeifer was high on a ladder putting up the new Corner Restaurant sign out front, hoping all would come together for the planned soft opening Monday. The entire breakfast/brunch/lunch menu is offered daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. It also will have a late night menu 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Menu items include German chocolate pancakes, chicken and waffles, house-made grits, pork belly sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and hand-cut bacon, along with Corner's famous "skillets" dishes -- fried potatoes with a variety of toppings.
