Jackson County lake that’s popular for swimming briefly closed. Here’s why
A popular lake in Jackson County has reopened after a brief closure.
The Jackson County Parks & Recreation Department announced on social media that Longview Lake, 11101 Raytown Road, is once again open to the public. The department closed it Tuesday, July 14, after routine water quality testing showed elevated levels of E. coli.
Additional testing showed the first result the department received was due to a bad water sample, the department said.
Follow-up testing confirmed that the water in the lake within the acceptable range for swimming, and they determined that the lake is safe to reopen.
“The health and safety of our visitors is always our top priority,” the department said on social media. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we verified the water quality.”
