See the first new café and restaurant announced for West Bottoms redevelopment

The first new café, restaurant and bar concept coming to the West Bottoms as part of a $500 million-plus redevelopment has been announced.

SomeraRoad, the New York- and Nashville-based developer remaking parts of the West Bottoms — with converted historic buildings alongside new construction in what was once an industrial hub — announced Tuesday that Two Hands Hospitality has signed a lease to open in the West Bottoms.

It’s the first new lease announced as part of SomeraRoad’s development, but more will be on the way.

New restaurant announced in the West Bottoms

Two Hands, which will open its 10th location in Kansas City, first opened in New York in 2014. The concept was inspired by the bright, inviting and community-focused cafés its founder missed from back home in Australia.

Henry Roberts, the founder and CEO, said he felt an instant connection to Kansas City upon visiting and that the West Bottoms reminded him of the neighborhoods Two Hands loves being a part of. Two Hands previously worked with SomeraRoad to open a location in a redeveloping Nashville neighborhood.

Roberts told The Star that Kansas City felt like “America’s best-kept secret” with an exciting future ahead.

Two Hands has locations in Colorado, Texas and New York. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner — from coffee time to cocktail time — and takes a healthier approach with its menu, which also reflects Australia’s melting pot of culinary and cultural influences.

The Kansas City location is expected to open in early 2027 on the ground floor of the Moline Plow building, 1015 Mulberry St., which is being converted into 121 lofts. It will connect with the future outdoor gathering space that’s also under construction and could open in spring 2027.

Grant Hromas, development executive for SomeraRoad, told The Star more announcements about future West Bottoms businesses will come soon — like food and beverage, fitness and wellness and other retail — with both local and national names.
