Baby alligator ‘Longview Lou’ is safely captured at Longview Lake in Jackson County

Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota said that the baby alligator spotted at Longview Lake named “Longview Lou” had been safely captured Thursday afternoon by Kansas City animal control.

The team set out traps Thursday afternoon and was able to safely capture the alligator, thought to have once been a pet released by a patron into the lake.

Kansas City Animal Services is planning to keep the alligator in its custody to see whether an owner comes forth or someone can provide information on where the alligator came from.

Kansas City Animal Services asks anyone with information to call 816-325-7207.

LeVota said if authorities are unable to locate the owner, the Kansas City Zoo will be asked to take the juvenile alligator into its care.
