Kansas City, Kansas, police said they had confirmed that remains found in April near the Quindaro Cemetery along the Missouri River were those of a 67-year-old man who was reported missing in 2023.

In a news release Friday afternoon, police said forensic testing confirmed the remains belonged to Wilfred Powell. Police said the remains were found by a man who was walking in a densely wooded area near the 3400 block of North 32nd Street.

Police said Powell was last seen in December 2023 and said he had frequented the area where the remains were found.

Police said they were continuing to investigate the death. Nancy Chartrand, a spokesperson for Kansas City, Kansas, police, said in an email to The Star on Friday that nothing so far has indicated that Powell died because of foul play, but said investigators were waiting on further testing.

Anyone with information about the case can contact police by calling the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
