A downtown Kansas City building was evacuated Tuesday afternoon for a hazardous material response, the Kansas City Fire Department said.

The department was called to a building in the 100 block of West 13th Street around 4 p.m. When first-responders arrived, a responsible party said they had mixed the wrong combination of chemicals for a cold plunge tub, said Battalion Chief Riley Nolan, a spokesperson for the fire department, in an email. The building was evacuated, and crews investigated.

Two people were taken to area hospitals for evaluation, Nolan said.

The building was ventilated, and hazmat crews worked to dilute the chemicals, Nolan said. Air quality was determined to be normal in the area, Nolan said.
