Two people were injured, one of them seriously, in a crash involving a car and two tractor-trailers on Interstate 70 near Bates City Monday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said westbound I-70 was closed in that area, which is about 30 minutes west of Kansas City, around 11 a.m. following a collision involving the three vehicles. An occupant of the car was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, said Sgt. Justin Ewing, a spokesman for the state patrol, in an email.

An occupant of one of the tractor-trailers was also injured and taken to an area hospital, he said.

The circumstances of the collision were not immediately clear Monday afternoon.

The state patrol said shortly before 2 p.m. that the interstate had reopened.
