Why 1,000 origami birds are hidden at KC’s City Market. Hint: Steven Spielberg
If you happen to be at City Market Wednesday and notice red origami cardinals — 1,000 of them to be exact — just hanging around, you might want to take one.
Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated summer blockbuster “Disclosure Day,” set in a fictionalized Kansas City, debuts June 12. But before that, Universal is hyping the movie in our fair city with the promise of free tickets.
The studio has placed 1,000 red-feathered origami cardinals at City Market, 20 E. 5th St., where they’ll be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
There is a Fandango promo code for two free tickets to the movie in 100 of the birds.
The promotion is only happening in Kansas City, New York and Los Angeles.
The origami birds are inspired by mysterious, red-feathered birds featured in this film that imagines what might happen if mankind received proof of non-human intelligent life.
“Disclosure Day” stars Emily Blunt as a Kansas City TV meteorologist, alongside Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell and Eve Hewson.
